PROGRAM GOALS

  • Introduce underrepresented and low-income high school and college students to careers in health professions
  • Support students’ professional and educational development through exposure to trainings, scholarships, and practical work experiences
  • Connect students with community partners addressing the social determinants of health
  • Leverage existing Kaiser Permanente employment practices to recruit, hire and retain students upon completion of internship programs

Youth internship program

Kaiser Permanente partners with referral employment programs across the Mid-Atlantic States to provide interns with work experiences that expose them to administrative and clinical careers in health care environments. Interns will not participate in medical procedures or treatment members during this internship.

About the experience

As an intern in the youth program, you will:

  • Enjoy a six-week summer work experience earning $13.50 per hour
  • Attend weekly workshops designed to provide you with valuable professional and personal skills development
  • Be matched with a mentor who will guide and support you in preparing for a career in health care
  • Network with peers and staff through work-based activities and various special projects

Eligibility

Interested applicants must:

  • Be at least 16 to 21 years old; priority is given to juniors and senior-level students
  • Be available to work full-time during the six-week summer program
  • Have permanent residence in one of our service areas: Baltimore, Prince George’s County, Montgomery County, and Northern Virginia
  • Complete the application process with one of our referral employment programs

How to apply

Kaiser Permanente works with referral employment programs in Baltimore, Prince George’s County, Montgomery County, and Northern Virginia to staff our youth program. Students interested in an internship with Kaiser Permanente must complete the application process through one of the following programs that is within your area of residence for consideration.

Kaiser Permanente Youth Internship Program dates: July 5 to August 12.

Baltimore YouthWorks: If you are a Baltimore City resident between the ages of 16 and 21, YouthWorks can help you with placement at Kaiser Permanente. Apply online or request more information at 410-545-1820 or email ywhelpdesk@oedworks.com.

Prince George’s County Youth@Work: This program helps young people ages 18 to 22 launch careers by providing them with no-cost job readiness training and paid employment at government, nonprofit, and business worksites in Prince George’s County and the greater Washington, DC, area.
