Mobile Health Vehicle

Putting communities on the road to better health

In the fall of 2010, Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States unveiled a new generation of mobile health services to the region, furthering our position as the model for the future of health care. Our single state-of-the-art Mobile Health Vehicle was designed to mirror a small medical center on wheels to serve our members and non-members in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. The Mobile Health Vehicle is available to serve several different audiences, with services for each.

The Mobile Health Vehicle offers both health education and preventive care services that include the following:

Service Description Audience Cost
Biometric screenings: Employers (An important component that helps to shape an employer’s corporate wellness program. For participants, these screenings provide information on current and potential medical issues.)

  • HbA1C
  • Care gap closure for members
  • Flu shots (seasonal)
Members and non-members No charge

Equipped with a reception area, two exam rooms, a lab, and computers wired with Kaiser Permanente HealthConnect®, the Mobile Health Vehicle has the capability to help us provide health care access to thousands of Kaiser Permanente members and the uninsured within the region. It also features an ADA-compliant wheelchair lift.

Kaiser Permanente’s Mobile Health Vehicle expands access to health care for our members and the community. It also allows us to continue to work toward the prevention and early detection of illness and to better treat ongoing conditions. The Mobile Health Vehicle exemplifies our commitment to enhancing care delivery, which is also fueled by our compassion and commitment to excellence.

Our Mobile Health Vehicle is unique from that of other providers and health plans because it’s fully wired with our KP HealthConnect system, which allows our physicians and nurses to quickly access member health history and information. In addition, onsite screening programs enable us to assist employer groups, members, and the community by providing them with health care services they may otherwise not have access to.

Community events offer an opportunity for Kaiser Permanente to join with local organizations and community partners to provide health education and screenings for health fairs, marathons, and other events. Screenings offered are blood pressure, body mass index, diabetes/HbA1c, and cholesterol. No-cost flu shots may also be available for both members and non-members.
