More than 75 years ago, Kaiser Permanente was founded with a bold new idea for affordable, high-quality health care.
And in 2022, our member-first approach to health care technology development has been recognized with Fast Company’s 2022 Design Company of the Year Award — the first time this honor has gone to a health care organization. This level of innovation in health care digital design also led to us being named a finalist in the Health category and an honoree for User Experience.
Fast Company editors and a panel of design professionals chose a total of 46 winners for this year’s Innovation by Design series of awards. The winners’ efforts demonstrate thoughtful strategies that look beyond short-term fixes for long-term solutions.

Our members’ opinions matter most
After a recent redesign, Kaiser Permanente’s member app was also voted Webby’s people’s choice winner in 2022. By bringing together features such as electronic medical records, appointment reminders, and 24/7 virtual care, our app and website help members manage their health all in one place.
Since the redesigned digital tools were introduced in 2021, our online appointment bookings rose 80% over the past year, site visits more than doubled, and member satisfaction with the digital experience rose from 86% to 92% after being unchanged for 5 years.
